Green Recovery: Overview of implemented measures

The New Climate Institute has launched a new report about recently adopted climate policies and climate-relevant policy responses to COVID-19. The report is the latest in a series of publications analyzing global climate action. It includes three sections:

  • An overview table of climate mitigation policies adopted or planned between July 2019 and August 2020, covering sectors such as transport and energy
  • An overview of implemented COVID-19 response measures and recovery packages, including information on selected “green” and “grey” measures screened for their climate impact
  • A table on updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and Long-Term Strategies (LTS) highlighting countries with increased ambitions.

The report includes information about 25 countries, which together account for about 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions. With regard to the analyzed COVID-19 response and recovery measures, the paper finds that only a few countries and regions have significantly invested in a green recovery.
