The ECB is extending its Pandemic Emergency Purchase Programme

As a response to the economic difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Central Bank (ECB) decided to increase its Pandemic Emergency Purchase Programme (PEPP) by EUR 600 billion to EUR 1.35 trillion, reports the FT on 4 June 2020. The ECB also extended the life of PEPP from the end of 2020 to June 2021. Other central banks, such as the Bank of Japan, have put in place similar asset purchase programmes to stimulate their economies.
