Scotland to Scale Up Offshore Wind Capacity

On October 28, 2020, the Scottish government released its Offshore Wind Policy Statement. The statement indicates that, in a green recovery effort, Scotland plans to scale up its wind energy generation capacity. The government intends to install hundreds of wind turbines off its coast, which will generate clean energy for more than 8 million homes.

Given the abundance of wind in the United Kingdom’s seas, Prime Minister Boris Johnson anticipates that, within 10 years, every home in the country will be supplied by wind energy. This will accelerate the country’s progress toward achieving net-zero emissions. In addition to increasing low-carbon energy use, Scotland’s plan intends to stimulate economic benefits by creating hundreds of jobs.
